Edith Reba Morgan Harrison of The Currituck House, Moyock, NC, formerly a lifelong resident of Elizabeth City, NC, went to eternal life with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2013. She was born on September 11, 1924. She was pre-deceased by her parents, John Wright Harrison and Nannie James (Jael) Wilson Harrison of Old Trap; brothers, J. Lamar Harrison formerly of Old Trap, John W. Harrison formerly of Hertford, Franklin D. Harrison formerly of Old Trap, and step daughter, Burkie Morgan Bland of Gloucester, VA. Reba was the widow of William C. Morgan.
She is survived by her husband, William D Harrison; her son, William C. Morgan, Jr., and wife, Patricia, of Virginia Beach, VA; her daughters, Neva Morgan Bennett and husband, Kim, of Tempe, AZ, and Melinda Morgan Hopkins and husband, Frank, of Simpsonville, SC. She is further survived by five stepchildren, Don Harrison, Bill Harrison, Jackie Nicholson, Janice Johnson, and Joanne Walker. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Cedar Bennett, Ashley Whipple, Jodi Harter, and Luke Hopkins; and five step grandchildren, J. Bland, Steve Bland, Jeff Harrison, Chris and Chase Nicholson; four great grandchildren, Samantha Hoffman, Joshua and Morgan Whipple, Addison Harter; three step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Frances Forbes, personal caregiver, for her devotion and love for Mother and to the staff at The Currituck House in Moyock and Chesapeake General Hospital.
Reba had been active in civic and community affairs, including the Museum of the Albemarle, the Elizabeth City Shrinettes and tutoring elementary school students. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a devout Christian. She was well known for her sewing, cooking, love for pretty flowers, and devotion to family. Her life will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at Twiford Memorial Chapel and officiated by the Reverend Joseph Casteel, Pastor of First United Methodist Church on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with interment following at Old Hollywood Cemetery in Elizabeth City. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 South Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and at other times at her residence.
