Rebecca “Becky” Harward Williams, age 92, formerly of Camden, NC, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living, Elizabeth City, NC. Born in Henderson, NC on August 30, 1925 to the late Fred and Josie McGee Harward, she was the widow of Lloyd George Williams. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and member of Sawyers Creek Baptist Church.
She and Lloyd enjoyed many Saturday nights playing Canasta with friends. Most of the gang will be together this Saturday night! She loved baseball, especially watching her grandson, Ryan, play. She equally enjoyed seeing granddaughter, Meredith, dance in her recitals through the years. Although Becky’s dementia caused her lost time with her great granddaughters, they brightened her spirit whenever they visited with her and they loved their GG. Her unborn great grandson will, too, share in the memories for years to come.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Leary of Camden, NC; a sister, Helen Helmandollar (Fred) of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Meredith Basnight and her daughters Marin and Cora of Raleigh, NC and Ryan Leary (Ashley) of Suffolk, VA who are expecting a son in October. She was preceded in death by siblings, Joanne Edney, Joe Harward, and Hurley Harward.
The family extends their many thanks and sincere gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living, especially the memory care community, for their many acts of kindness and devotion. They went beyond what was expected and it will not be forgotten.
A private family service will be held. The family will receive friends at a visitation scheduled from 3:00 ~ 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Sawyers Creek Baptist Church, 241 Sawyers Creek Road, Camden, NC 27921. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sawyers Creek Baptist Church. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Williams family.
