Robert Lee Hendren, 97, of Tyner, NC, recently of Edenton Prime Time, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Vidant Health in Greenville, NC.  He was born December 8, 1914 in the Belvidere Community of Perquimans County to the late John Robert Hendren and Olive Lee Smith Hendren and was the husband of 71 years to the late Clara Mae Winslow Hendren.  He was a member of the Up River Friends Meeting and a retired farmer.

Mr. Hendren is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Hendren Lane and husband Thomas of Tyner, NC and Cindy Hendren Fodell and husband Charles of Raleigh, NC, a sister Lillian H. Winslow of Belvidere, three grandchildren, Tammy L. Grunkemeyer and husband Joseph of Lorton, VA, Matthew H. Fodell and Robert J. Fodell, both of Raleigh, NC; and great-grandson, Nathan T. Grunkemeyer of Lorton, VA.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three infant daughters, two sisters Irene H. Butt and Mattie H. Winslow and a brother William Kenneth Hendren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wilcox officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation and fellowship on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and also immediately following the service in the funeral home lobby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Up River Friends Meeting at 523 Up River Road, Belvidere, NC 27919. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Hendren family with arrangements.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at
