Rudolph E. “Sunny” Warden, Sr., 83 of 216 Simpson Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at his home. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of the late George and Annie Pierce Warden and was the husband of the late Doris Beals Warden. Mr. Warden was a member of First Christian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He later retired from the Army National Guard and retired as a civil service boiler mechanic. He was also a member of the Chrome Pony Mustang Club and the Mustang Club of America.
Mr. Warden is survived by a daughter, Gwen W. Williams and husband Randy of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Rudy Warden and wife Sharon of Elizabeth City, NC and Tim Warden and wife Brenda of Hertford, NC; six grandchildren, Courtney Cunningham and husband Joseph, April Williams, Brock Warden and wife Lynetti, Samantha Warden, Summer Warden and Jason Warden and wife Jessica; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Cunningham, Peyton Cunningham, Avery Warden, Timmy Reed, Nate Reed, Barrett Pike, Lexi Warden and Aramis Warden and long-time friend, Ann Hall.
A funeral service will take place Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Perry Turner officiating and military honors provided by the United States Army. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford Memorial Chapel Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
