John Scott Davis, 51, of the 900 block of North Colonial Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Winslow Memorial Home. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Gail Thomasson Davis Sanderlin of Elizabeth City and the late Joshua Leon Davis, Jr. He was the owner and operator of Davis Monuments. Scott was generous to a fault often doing random acts of kindness for people whom he didn’t even know.
Besides his mother he is survived by three brothers, Tom Davis and wife Brenda of Elizabeth City, NC, Joe Davis of Elizabeth City, NC and Wayne Davis of Jacksonville, FL; ex-wives, Brenda Copley and Terry Davis both of Elizabeth City, NC; a special friend who was like a daughter to him, Callie McGrath of VA; eight nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Jeremy, David, Sommer, Kaytee, Eric, Whitley, and Amber; and his canine companion Katie. He was pre-deceased by his beloved twin sister, Jennifer Kay Davis. The family would like to thank Scott’s friends who offered their time and support during his illness.
A memorial service will be Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the residence of his mother, 1952 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
