Susan Marie Eckard

Susan Marie Eckard, 64, of Collington Harbor, NC, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2014. Marie was born on November 19, 1949, in San Antonio, TX, but moved frequently with her family as their father traveled with the U.S. Air Force.  Marie especially loved the family’s time in Spain.  She lovingly cared for her younger brothers and sisters, and had a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews.   She was a talented photojournalist, and was most known for her work in Southern California covering the Baja 500 & 1000 for off-road racing publications.  She was a strong, intelligent, and perceptive woman with a benevolent heart.

She is survived by her siblings Cecelia Graciani Wolf  of Crimora, VA;  Robert Eckard of Collington, NC; Paul Eckard of Cincinnati, OH; Mark Eckard of Albuquerque, NM; David Eckard of Swan Quarter, Tim Eckard of Raleigh, NC, and Christina Brodeur  of Southern Shores, NC; and six nieces and six nephews. Marie is predeceased by her parents, Lt. Col. Robert L. Eckard, Jr. and Rose Marie (Schroer) Eckard of Duck, NC, and siblings, Steven and Julie Eckard.

I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share some encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. May these words give you a new hope.

May God embrace Marie as she passes onto the next life. She was warm hearted, kind, gentle, and shared her life with so many in a way that touched many hearts. She will be missed. God bless her family and friends at this time.

Marie was one of the most articulate, informed and intelligent people I’ve known on the Outer Banks. I am so sorry her family and friends are experiencing this loss. She will be missed by those who knew her well. Her unique perspective on life was quite refreshing. I will certainly miss her.

  4. Fred & Judy Harman

We will surely miss Marie and know she is resting with her Savior. She cared for people in a friendly way and was very close to her family. She will be missed and we pray for all the family.

I remember your saying that whenever you saw a road, you wondered what was at the end of it. May your last road take you to that beautiful place you always dreamed of.
