William Thomas “Tom” Goodwin, Sr., 72, of 100 Farm Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, July 22, 2013 at his residence. A native of Chowan County, he was the son of the late Richard Lee Goodwin and Thelma Nixon Goodwin and the husband of Ann Pike Goodwin of the residence. He was a retired mechanic with NCDOT, member and Deacon at Corinth Baptist Church, member and Past President of Improved Order of Red Men, and member and Past President of Pasquotank Ruritan Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Wendy G. Holcomb and husband Chip of Nags Head, NC; a son, William “Billy” Goodwin, Jr., and wife Renee of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Shelton Goodwin of Elizabeth City, NC and Ray Goodwin of Windsor, NC; two grandchildren, Jordan Holcomb and Jamie Holcomb; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Pike and wife Lynne of Elizabeth City, NC. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Lucy Mae Copeland and two brothers, Jack Goodwin and Wayne Goodwin.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating followed by the Improved Order of Red Men Ritual. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and immediately after the service in the funeral home lobby. At other times the family will be at the residence.
