Alex Sean Gross, died peacefully on May 23, 2020 in the arms of his loving mother and brother, Brandon, at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, VA. Alex was born December 4, 2006. He leaves behind his mother, Lynn Russell; brothers, Brandon and Miguel Murphy Russell of Elizabeth City; and grandmother, Helen Passantino of Newnan, GA. Alex passed away from complications of severe Scoliosis, one of many diagnoses he developed from a Traumatic Brain Injury due to child abuse.
Alex was homeschooled. Alex touched the lives of all who knew him and was loved by many, especially those in the medical field at CHKD who supported him medically. Dr. Dan Robinson of Coastal Pediatrics in Elizabeth City was caring and instrumental in assisting the family with Alex’s medical needs as well as all the specialty clinics in which Alex was seen at CHKD. Alex’s physicians were his second family. Alex was always happy and brave in light of the painful medical procedures and surgeries he endured. He was a warrior and at the end of life he was a hero. Alex was an organ donor who helped many others who were less fortunate and had medical issues like himself. Although Alex was non-verbal, if he could speak he would want the world to know, “If you see something; (child abuse) say something”. Alex is finally at peace with his Heavenly Father. Heaven has gained another special angel who is no longer suffering here on earth and is at eternal peace.
Our hearts are heavy and the void is great and cannot be filled but Alex leaves us with many loving memories to cherish forever.
