Amelia C. Overman (Millie), 71, of Kill Devil Hills, NC passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, after a short but brave battle with cancer. She was in her home surrounded by love and family. Millie was a beloved member of the OBX community, cherished friend, trusted confidant and advisor. She will be truly missed by so many. Millie had a gentle spirit and a strength admired by all; she was truly one of a kind.
Born in Winston Salem, NC on September 20, 1950. Millie is survived by her mother Odetta Delores Creech, daughter Kelly White (Rob), granddaughter April White, brother Laten Creech (Mercedes), nephews Alan Creech (Lauren and daughter Selah), Jeff Creech (Julie) and Scott Conner (Kimberly) who she loved like a son. She is preceded in death by her father Wilbur Creech.
Millie made her home in the Outer Banks 35yrs ago and conveyed a passion to the community and a focus on the well-being of Sea Turtles. She was the founder of N.E.S.T. (The Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) established in 1995, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of sea turtles and other protected marine wildlife on the Outer Banks. She brought her hairstylist skills to the island as well and succeeded in opening her own shop, Encore by the Shore, which will remain open.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life is being planned near her birthday in September. Anyone interested in attending please email friendsofmillie@yahoo.com to receive specific details once available. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Millie asked that you think of her when going out of your way to support others in need whether it be volunteerism or a simple gesture of kindness.

I feel so blessed to have been a friend and coworker of Millie’s. I could not begin to say enough kind words to describe Millie. Peaceful, tranquil, smart, kind, generous and compassionate are just a few. She was very wise and always offered words of comfort and encouragement to me in any situation. She is a beautiful soul and I miss her dearly. She will be in my heart forever.

To Millie’s Mother, Daughter and Family,
Millie was indeed a trusted confidant. We had a lot in common, both beauticians and shared many details of our lives. It breaks my heart to hear of her passing.
I feel as I should know Kelly, she spoke of her often and was so proud of her accomplishments.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings to All,

For someone like Millie, the few sentences that will fit into this box won’t do her the justice she deserves so I will keep it short and say that Mille touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.

Kelly and Rob, Millie loved you deeply. We met at her salon just a few years ago, and at every visit she welcomed me with the warmth of her smile and a lifetime of wisdom behind those beautiful eyes. She spoke of you often and fondly, and her beloved pets, and her appreciation for all her blessings. She was genuine, kind, gentle, confident, compassionate and so much more. I am so sorry for your loss, for all of our loss. She was special.
