Anthony Melvin Smith, Jr. (“Tony”) of Red Maple Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his residence. Born January 4, 1969 to Barbara Irene Krause and the late Anthony Melvin Smith, he was the husband of Karol Oliver Smith. He was a very proud Veteran retiree of the U. S. Navy and worked in Civil Service Technology Management.
Tony was a good dude. He was the nerd of the family and never met a computer he didn’t like. Tony also enjoyed spending time working on projects around his home. He loved to listen to big hair rock music, his John Deere and sharing memories around the fire. His favorite color was purple. His sense of humor made him so popular with everyone he met. His friends referred to him as “Smitty”. Tony taught all of us what it means to live in accordance to our values, to be logical and to always do risk assessment. Tony also taught us what it means to show up and love our friends, our country, and our family deeply. He was a caring, selfless and supportive father to all of his kids. He was a loving husband who always made his wife laugh and smile. They were truly best friends. His dog, Loki, was his second best friend.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four daughters, Stephanie Simpson of OR, Allison and Tiffany Simpson of VA, and Samantha Smith of GA; three sons, Benjamin Smith and Ryan Smith of MD, and Aaron Smith of VA; and two sisters, Karen Stevens (Aaron) and Cynthia Hoover (Darren) of MD.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Father Nick Cottrill officiating. The family requests that visitors share cherished stories and memories of Tony and will receive friends immediately following the service.
