Rev. Aubrey Carter Sanders (88) of Manassas, VA departed for heaven January 05, 2022, in Woodbridge, VA. He was born August 30,1933 in Elizabeth City, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 69 years, Betty Louise Smith Sanders. They served the Lord together since 1951, ministering in North Carolina 1957-1963 and in Virginia since 1963. He was the founding pastor of Community Baptist Church.
He is survived by his four children Nita Mitchell (Steve), Dee Cox (Tommy), Beth Pike (Jerald), Michael Sanders (Suzanne); Ten grandchildren Bethany Ganz (Danny), Natalie Bryan (JB), Thomas Cox (Analisa), Kathryn Pugh (Robbie), Joshua Cox, Clarissa Sanders, Richie Sanders (Tori), Rebecca Cox, Timothy Pike, and Zachary Pike; Twelve great-grandchildren: Alyssa Confino, Isabella Confino, Andrew Confino, Ezra Ganz, Ella Ganz, Eli Ganz, Carter Bryan, Lydia Bryan, Malia Bryan, Blake Mitchell, Maggie Pugh, and Joshua Pugh. He was pre-deceased by his parents Richard and Effie (Carter) Sanders and brothers Maywood Sanders, Clarence Sanders, and sister Evelyn Hooker, all of Elizabeth City.
A funeral service will be held at the River of Grace Lutheran Church (formerly “Community Baptist Church”), 15012 Dumfries Rd. Manassas, VA 20112 on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, with the visitation at 11:00 am and a service following at 12:00 noon. A second service will take place at Berea Baptist Church, 2033 N. Road St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909 on Friday, January 21, 2022, with the visitation at 11:00 am and a service following at 12:00 noon. The interment will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery. Pastor Urie Hershberger will be officiating all services.
He always had a heart for missions intending to go to the mission field himself until GOD redirected his life path into pastoral ministry. He never lost the desire to share the message of Christ’s love and continued to support missions up until his passing. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and served Him well. He demonstrated his love for Him and others through his service. He loved his Lord, his family and his community. Surely he entered heaven hearing “Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant.” Contributions can be made for memorial Bibles in Rev. Aubrey C.
