Chandra Darlys Gebbia, 47, passed away peacefully at her Elizabeth City residence on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 after a lengthy battle with breast and brain cancer. She is survived by her husband, John, her daughters Ashley, Erin (husband Jake), and Maggie, her granddaughter, Juliana, and her sister Brandy Mitchell.
Chandra was a fantastic wife, an amazing mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She cherished life and absolutely adored her family. She had an almost “larger than life” personality and was very clear as to exactly where she stood on virtually every matter discussed. Chandra easily made friends wherever she went, and she will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Chandra was born in Chico, CA, to the late Gary and Evelyn Poe Bray on June 5th, 1972. She was a graduate of Independence High School of Winston-Salem, NC. She married John S. Gebbia, III on April 29th, 2016 in Elizabeth City. Chandra sat on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Foundation, Ltd. whereon she served in the position of Director of Finance for the last eight years. She also served as Managing Partner for the “Executives for Trump” web page.
Chandra served with distinction as a Specialist in the United States Army and was awarded the prestigious German American Sports Award during her tour of duty at Bad Kreuznach Army Base in Germany. She was an actively involved officer and member of the Elizabeth City Shrinettes, wherein she served as Secretary. She was also an Honorary Member of the National Sojourners, Inc. in recognition of her honorable military service.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will take place at her home at 914 West Church Street in Elizabeth City to honor her memory on Saturday, June 6, 2020, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with formal Services to be held at 3:30 p.m.
