Clarence Thorpe Sanders, age 89, of Camden, NC died on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his home. He was born in Elizabeth City, NC on April 4, 1932 to the late Clarence Etheridge Sanders and Helen Colleen Thorpe Sanders. After graduating from Elizabeth City High School, Clarence studied art at The Guggenheim Museum in Washington, DC for a summer before attending Davidson College. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Coast Guard before returning home to help his father in the family business at the Sanders Company. He served as former president of Museum of the Albemarle and was a founding member of the Albemarle Craftsman’s Fair. Clarence was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of Rotary. He had a lifelong love of astronomy and astrophotography and a passion for art where he excelled in casting, carving, and painting. Clarence was a true renaissance man.
He is survived by his children, Colleen Sanders Camacho and husband Chris, and Thorpe Sanders and wife Laura; and two grandchildren, Anna Kitchin and Catherine Kitchin. He was preceded in death by his wives, Betty Jean, Barbara, and Katharine.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating.
