Going to miss you Scooter. Lots of memories of a long friendship. Rest in Peace my friend.
Scooter will be missed by so many. He and I first met when we were three years old and immediately became fast friends. One of my fondest memories was in 6th grade when Mrs Meekings keep getting us confused. First half of the year when she called Spencer, Scooter answered. Then after Christmas, we reversed it! Great fun.
I am so sorry to hear about Scooter. Like so many others have said, we will keep many fond memories of him in our hearts. Please accept my sincere condolences.
Scooter was a cousin of Arvin’s and he touched so many different lives in so many ways. What a reunion that was when he saw his MOM Nancy, his Aunt ABAI, BILL, BUD, CARLISLE, LINDA, AUNT MARY and so many more. I’m glad he was my cousin also for 50 years!
Scooter always had a larger than life personality that could always make someone smile. So long for now, Scooter.
To Scooter’s Family: Scooter and I went to school together, and were great friends. I will always remember his band, and his musical talent. He was a great guy, whom I will always remember. My condolences to the family. John

I remember the day I met you, my mom asked me to ask the man next door if he wanted to put the lawnmower on the porch in our garage because it was out in the rain. Then you married her, and the two of you did much together in the years you shared. I remember the Wayne Dyer quotes you would share with me, even when I was in sixth grade. “You are what you think about all day long,” you would say to me as I, an awkward middle schooler, was struggling to find my way.
I remember the black Ford Bronco we had, the trip you and Mom took Luke, Mack, and me to Ft. Macon. I remember that white Merkur you drove that became Mom’s after you got the red Thunderbird, and all the hours we spent in that car when you would drop me off with my dad and pick up your boys.
You worked hard studying and crafting a business plan with Mom to open Scoot’s, and it was a local favorite among the people of Oriental. Your love of the water, sailing, and love of cooking helped fashion a little restaurant where you cut and laid the tile, sampled every item from food distributors before crafting the menu. Your creativity formed items like the “boat box” for other boaters who were hungry on the water.
I remember you enjoying your Lowenbrau beer, always smiling at the town locals when they came by. You tried to talk sense to me as I struggled as a teenager. Parents, too, struggle, and I am glad we made our peace when our paths crossed at Bacu Grille in Nags Head after our family had made new ways, apart.
I am so sorry to learn of your passing. I’m surprising myself with the grief that has overcome me, all these years later. You were still so young, and, as I look at your Facebook page, I see your love of music continued, your sense of humor still shined.
May you rest in peace, Scooter. Twice yesterday The Chick Corea Band came on the radio when I was going to and coming home from work. It’s been years since I’ve heard them, and I know it was you saying “Hi” to me yesterday.
I loved sitting behind him in church over the past couple of years. His enthusiasm during praise and worship was awesome! We will miss him. I was blessed by his service today. So glad that he and Pastor Steve were friends as he spoke from the heart about him.
To the family of Scooter, I came to visit him at his home year before last…I live 1,000 miles…south of Mobile, AL. Dad was stationed at Kill Devil Hills Lightkeeping Station….I went to schools while there at Manteo. He was PRECIOUS to me and made me feel special on my visit. I will pray for comfort and peace. Margie

I have known of Scooter from his days playing in the band that came to the Casino and to one of the proms at Manteo High School. It was great to begin to establish a new connection with him in recent years on Facebook. His humor and whit were always welcome greetings on a regular basis. I am sorry to hear of his passing and send regards to his family and friends who had the joy of knowing him better than me. He will be missed.
Sorry to see that you had moved on to your greater reward,Scooter.I will miss you old friend.Rest in peace.
Prayers and best wishes for comfort.
What a guy..we had many good times playing music together back in the 60’s and early 70’s. Even though I rarely saw him after those times I have always remembered him and our music group’s photo still sits on a stand in my music room..I’ll miss that grin and wit.
My condolences to Scooter’s family. We attended grades 1-7 together at Manteo Elementary School. He and my younger brother, Joe, knew each other through their love of music. May you all find comfort through God.
