Dear family friends, my amazing prayer brothers and sisters, I “personally” want to thank you for walking through this journey with me and my family. My heart is full as it is breaking.
Danny Maurice Hayden ran a race of life that was full of many laps. Born in Topeka, Kansas to Sammy B Hayden and Jerry Ann Morrison. She loved the song “Danny Boy” that was a huge hit around June 7th, 1945, the day that he began his first lap. Growing up he lived in Enid, Oklahoma for about 10 years. Their family then moved to Winfield, Kansas to be closer to family. In 1963 he graduated from Winfield high school and became a student at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. From there he enlisted in the army and went to language school after which he served for 3 1/2 years in Bad Aibling, Germany. After his tour ended, he traveled to different parts of Europe, went back to UK and finished his Bachelor of Science degree. He furthered his education in Lincoln, NE, and that is where we met. I lost my dog on a cold blizzardy morning. It was a Tuesday. That afternoon I got a call from this person asking me if I was his owner. I went to get him and I will never forget Dan’s kind blue eyes and sweet smile. We were married in June of 1979. He worked for pharmaceutical companies as a statistician/ medical writer, writing reports for new medicines to be approved by the FDA. In those years we had 2 children, Lindsey and Matthew. We lived in Kansas City for 20 years, then he worked for a company in Seattle, WA. In just six years, the company was purchased by another company located in Emeryville, CA. and that is where he finished his 30-year career. And in 2017, we moved to where we are today, South Mills, NC.
Dan finished his last leg of his race Sunday, January 27th, 2019. He entered his heavenly home in complete harmony with his lifelong journey knowing God was the center of everything! That there was total peace and harmony between science and the Creator of it all. In fact, he felt such unity that apart from God nothing would even exist! It was a beautiful revelation that brought him from salvation to a personal one on one relationship between the Trinity and his most inner being. I only wish we would have had more time exploring the heavenlies together!
His legacy is left behind with his wife of 39 1/2 years, Kristi Lyn Haynes Hayden, his daughter Lindsey Erin Castaneda and husband Adam Wesley, his son Matthew Wade Hayden, and his sister Dana Lynn Bennington. He has been blessed with eight beautiful grandchildren who will also carry on a part of their beloved granddaddy. He was a man of integrity. A faithful husband, dad, and provider. He was a lifelong learner, always something new to discover. He truly will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family. Be at peace my love, as you now can forever explore the greatness of our God. We love you forever.
