David “Dave” Ross Disbennett, age 77, of W. Williams Circle, Elizabeth City, NC passed away at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Born in Marion, OH on November 25, 1940 to the late Howard Meredith Disbennett and Francis Hare Disbennett, he was the husband of Carol Salter Disbennett. Mr. Disbennett served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard where he retired after 37 years of service as a Master Chief (ATCM). He was a Gold Lifetime Member of the Chief Petty Officers Association and a member of the North-South Skirmish Association for 37 years with the 7th NC Volunteers.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by a daughter, Amy Dawn Barnett and her husband, Michael, of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, David Barton Disbennett and his wife, Wanda, of Elizabeth City, NC, and John Ross Disbennett and wife, Heidi, of Greenwich, CT; four grandchildren, Nicki Wilson and husband C.J., Brandy Disbennett-Albrecht and husband Scott, Lauren Disbennett, and Trevor Disbennett; and one great granddaughter, Bella Wilson. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dona Shannon and Martha Clark, as well as a brother, Robert “Bob” Disbennett.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating and military honors rendered by the United States Coast Guard and the V. F. W. Post 6060. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 ~ 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
