Early in the morning of Sunday, May 1, 2022, Denise McNamara left her earthly home and passed on peacefully, surrounded by family.
Denise is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Dawn Farrington and son in law, Daniel Farrington, as well as daughter Maureen Ann McNamara and son in law Micheal Tate Swindell Jr; 5 grandchildren, Erin Nicole Farrington (age 22), Samantha Paige Farrington and Ailyn Farrington; Alyssa James Swindell (age 8) and Darren Swindell (age 5). She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert James McNamara, and parents, Paul Bertram Harrington and Patricia Kenney Ryan.
Denise’s journey began in Floral Park, NY where she lived as an only child with her parents. She attended Maria Regina Catholic School and after completing her senior year, attended Medical Assistant school. She held several jobs before beginning her career as an Imports Manager at Wilson UTC in Jamaica, NY. In 1991, she and her husband Jim decided to purchase their home in the downtown area of Manteo, NC.
Once in Manteo, Denise spent most of her career employed by Albemarle Mental Health Center as support staff and several years there as a Medical Records Intermediate Manager. After its closing in 2009, Denise held jobs at The Christmas Shop in Manteo, Duck Thru in Wanchese, and Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in Nags Head.
Denise valued a job well done and took great pride in her work. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family and taking spontaneous drives to explore. She didn’t go anywhere that she didn’t meet a friend, new or old. Denise’s witty sense of humor combined with her genuine and sincere kindness toward others truly lit up the atmosphere in any room.
She will be so greatly missed here, but we rest easy knowing we will see her again.
A celebration of Denise’s life will be scheduled for later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts and contributions be made to Cross Culture Community, 501(c)3 to assist their ministry in discipleship and meeting others right where they are. Donations to Cross Culture are used to contribute to local, regional, nationwide, and global missions and needs. Donations to be made payable and sent to Cross Culture Community, 70 ER Daniels Road, Wanchese, NC 27981,
