Edward Oren Diggs (Ed), age 75, died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 4:20 pm surrounded by his family.
Ed was born January 31, 1942, to William Butler Diggs and Ethel Mae Swett in Charlotte, NC. He married Beverly Netherland on June 27, 1959. Ed was a plumber by trade and a true family man at heart. Ed and Beverly always desired a large family even though they only had two children of their own. They impacted countless individuals through their years of coaching sports teams, leading Girl Scout troops, organizing Vacation Bible Schools, and opening their home and their hearts to friends and family. Ed was always the easiest one to spot at family events. He was one of the tallest in the group and often wearing a Carolina Panthers hat.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Diggs of South Mills, NC; his daughters, Beverly Gerres (Joseph) of South Mills, NC and Tina Ange (Ronnie) of Bedford, VA; his sister, Buffy David (Ralph) of Bremerton, WA; his four grandchildren, Charlie Richey, Ryan Gerres (Caitlin), Rainey Ange, Tuesday Ange; and his great-grandson, Darcy Gerres. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 11:00 am at Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years – 117 Main Street, South Mills, NC 27976.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church building fund.
Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.TwifordFH.com.

Ed was such a nice man. Aunt Louise has told me the story of granny making your wedding cake and them driving it all the way to Charlotte. They never thought they would make it with the cake in one piece! But they did! You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
