Eldon Boom was born in Little Rock, IA on March 13, 1932 and passed away in Royal Highlands, Leesburg, FL. He was 86 years old.
His family moved to Reading, MN in 1938. He went to a country school for grades 1-8 and graduated from Worthington High School in 1950. He joined the Coast Guard in 1952 and spent 22 plus years serving his country in aircraft repair and maintenance reaching the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. While serving, he earned 3 Good Conduct Awards and a Bronze Star. He spent much of his military life in Elizabeth City, NC with short-term assignments in Memphis, TN and Port Angeles, WA.
It was in Elizabeth City that he met his soul mate, Edith Meads. They were married for 58 years until his death on October 28, 2018. After 22 years of service, he was retired 6 months before his wife kicked him out of the house and sent him back to work where he worked for 22 more years for the Civilian Branch of the Coast Guard at the Aircraft Repair and Supply Center (AR&SC) in Aviation Engineering and as an Electronics Equipment Specialist.
If you ever wondered where Eldon and Edith were, you should check the golf course. They were both golfers and loved playing with family and friends.
Eldon and Edith moved from Elizabeth City in 2002 to Royal Highlands. And if you are wondering why the Royal Highlands, well, this is a great golf community.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Edith; sister Darlene Lutter in Mankato, MN and her family (Diana, Mike, Richard, Jeanie, Lisa, Kim, LaVonne, Paul, and Jeff; brother Harlan and his wife Mary Ann in Fulda, MN and his family (Sandra and Bianca); his brother Donald and his wife Sharyl in Albert Lea, MN and his family (Melissa and Donna); and many other grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Emma, and a nephew, David.
A memorial service will be held at the Gateway Church in Leesburg at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:30 p.m. on November 2, 2018.
A Military Service will be held in Elizabeth City, NC at Twiford Funeral Home on Monday, November 5, 2018. Visitation is at 12:30 p.m. with the service at 1:00 p.m. Military honors will be rendered at Twiford Funeral Home by the V. F. W. Post 6060 and the United States Coast Guard.
