Elizabeth Thompson Gauss, 95, formerly of Elizabeth City, NC, passed on July 13, 2003 after a brief stay at the Britthaven Nursing Home in Nags Head, NC. Born in Elizabeth City, NC on February 20, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Judge Charles Everett Thompson and the late Sarah Bartlett Thompson and was the widow of Erwin Wood Gauss. She retired to Raleigh, NC in 1973 and was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, and was a docent at both the NC Museum of Art and the NC History Museum.
Mrs. Gauss is survived by a son, Thompson Gauss of Manteo, NC; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline Gauss Tait.
A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
