Elizabeth Hill Creef, 89, of Manteo, NC died Thursday, December 9, 2021, after a short illness at Peak Resources – Outer Banks with her family by her side.

Born in Alton, IL on September 25, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Dornbach Hill and Earl Preston Hill.

Mrs. Liz was involved in her community volunteering with the Girl and Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Manteo Woman’s Club for 62-years and was active in helping when Dare County built the new library.

When she and her husband moved to his hometown of Manteo after his military service, she embraced life in Dare County and many locals embraced her. She was always willing to volunteer to help others, no matter if transporting to a doctor’s appointment, just to lend a helping hand, or being a school “homeroom mother.”

A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Liz would say she was “the meanest mother in Manteo”. She not only raised her family but was the “neighborhood mom” to numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Creef was preceded in death by her husband of 58.5-years, Herbert Augustus “H.A.” Creef, Jr.; sister, Mary Lou Buzan; brother-in-law, Nelson Buzan brother, John Hill; and son-in-law, Lish Meekins.

She is survived by three children, Tim Creef (Denise), Liz Ann Creef-Meekins, and Buddy Creef (Kate); five grandchildren, Will Creef (Timberly), Davis Creef (Kate), Sara Creef Limmerman (Brady), Elyssa Creef, and Alex Creef; one great-granddaughter, Hattie Creef; a sister, Audrey Hawkins; and many nieces, nephews, and “adopted family”.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at her daughter’s home, 93 Pine Acres Road, Wanchese, NC 27981.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Susan G. Komen (13770 Noel Rd, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380) or the American Diabetes Association (PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116).

Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.TwifordFH.com.

Liz Ann, Tim, Buddy and families — Thinking of each of you in your great loss, and remembering your mother as the nurturing, kind and wise woman who put up with all of us who showed up on your doorstep to play in the yard or just hang out. No telling how many of us she mentored over the years, always making us feel welcome in your home, and helping us learn to try to be our best selves through time spent in Scouts, at the Pioneer, and everywhere our lives touched. She was a gracious lady whose memory I will always cherish. Much love to each of you.
