EvansElizabeth opt

Elizabeth Leggett Weeks Evans, 52, of Kitty Hawk, NC, died peacefully Tuesday, July 13, 2021. She was born at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN., the daughter of Stephen Beauregard Weeks and Jean Lanier Leggett.

Liz is best known for her loving, kind, generous nature. She had a huge, selfless heart and gave freely of herself to others without asking for anything in return. She adored animals, especially her cats, Milo and Buddy. She loved life, laughed often, and had a wicked sense of humor. Liz enjoyed baking and cooking comfort food for family and friends. Liz was a devoted, loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and loyal friend.

Liz grew up in Raleigh, NC, and graduated from Jesse O. Sanderson High School. Loving the sand and sea, she settled near family on the Outer Banks. She looked forward to joining the church, owning her own home, and driving up and down the beach in a red VW convertible with eyelashes.

She is predeceased by her mother, Jean Leggett Shuping, and step-father, Lawrence Bruner Shuping, Jr.

In addition to her father, Liz is survived by her step-mother, Kathy A. Weeks; and by her daughter, Isabella Leggett Strickland and her son, Graham Banks Evans, both of Kitty Hawk; her sisters, Jean Derbyshire Dada (Aleem) of Raleigh, Natalie Weeks Smith (Jason) of Apex, April Celes Weeks of Kill Devil Hills, her brothers, Alexander Lanier Shuping (Sara) of Raleigh and Anderson Beauregard Weeks of Kill Devil Hills, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Friends and family are welcome to attend a viewing at 12:30 prior to the service. A graveside interment will follow at Southern Shores Cemetery. All are invited for a reception at the home of Steve and Kathy Weeks, 20 Spindrift Trl, Southern Shores, NC 27949, after the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Feline Hope, PO Box 893, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949, online at felinehope.org, or to a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear of Liz’s passing. I never realized that she has been living so close to me all of this time (I am in Hatteras). I went to high school with her in Raleigh and I believe she lived fairly close to me in the neighborhood I grew up in in Raleigh. I always came to Hatteras when I was young and never knew she had a connection to Dare County as well. I just wanted to share this and let you all know how very sorry I am for your loss.
