Hilda Perry Burns was welcomed into Heaven on November 29, 2018. She was born in Edenton, NC on October 17, 1927 to Wood and Arrie Perry. She had 2 siblings: an older sister, Eva Mae, and a younger brother, Charles Cecil. She was married to Thomas Burns, Jr. (who passed away in 2012) for 60 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie-Beth Mutzabaugh and “son” Gary Mutzabaugh. She worked in a photography studio in Fall River, MA and as a dental assistant in Edenton. She became a Christian at a very early age. After moving to Virginia from Massachusetts, she became a member of First Baptist Church, Woodbridge, VA. Moving to Elizabeth City, NC upon her husband’s retirement, she was a member of Corinth Baptist Church for approximately 35 years where she was a proud member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School class. In 2014 she moved to Suffolk, VA where most recently she had been living with her daughter. She has two granddaughters (Traci Smith and Kelly Williams); two
“grandsons” (Steve Smith and Ricky Williams, husbands of Traci and Kelly); and four great-granddaughters, Evelyn, Sophia, Kensington, and Emerson. And….she was the proud momma of Presley (her dog).
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the lobby. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is serving the Burns family.
