Jessie Garrard Pearce, age 98, of Lighthouse Pointe, Chesapeake, Virginia went to be with her Lord on November 1, 2018 while a patient at Sentara Hospice House, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Jessie, one of eight children of Frank Garrard and Estelle Bailey, both deceased, was born in Dexter, New Mexico. She met Andrew Wilson Pearce, now deceased, in Alamogordo, New Mexico during WWII. She loved her church, McBride United Methodist. Over the years, she enjoyed serving others through her volunteer work in many capacities at church, as well as at the Museum of the Albemarle, Meals on Wheels, Wesley Hospitality House, the Methodist Home for Children in Edenton, North Carolina, and the Emmaus Community. She was a former board member of the Albemarle Food Bank, and a former District Officer for the Albemarle United Methodist Women. She earned an associate degree from College of the Albemarle.
Jessie is survived by her four children, Edward Pearce and Martha Ann of South Mills, Dora Pearce (Jerone Horn) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Frances Pearce of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Rebecca MacNeal, Dana Cherry, and Jessica Horn, as well as seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks all those at Lighthouse Pointe who enriched her life and the staff of Sentara Hospice House who cared for her during her last days.
