John Robert Wright, Jr., 65, of Wanchese, NC, passed away on June 7, 2022.
He was predeceased by his father John Robert Wright, Sr., and brothers Michael Sawyer, Ronald Sawyer, Timothy Von Wright, and Danny Tyson Wright. He leaves behind his life partner, Mary Susan Etheridge (daughter Ricki Leigh and grandchildren Libby and B), mother Marian Hope Dough (Walter Allen), sister Johnna Catherine Bonet Wright, and stepbrother Thomas Allen Dough (Sorah).
Johnny was a dedicated commercial fisherman for all his life. He grew up on the Outer Banks and loved surfing, all watersports and boating, sports (watching Sunday football was a favorite pastime), and animals, especially his black labs, Bandit and Olivia. He was a fun soul for kids to be around— always having a joke or making them laugh.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held in his honor at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo, NC.

My heart cries for you . I remember him at Ronnie’s funeral – and through the years of going to high school with his brothers they were all good guys – never made trouble . Good people . I wish there was something I could do to help but I can only think of one way . It’s really hard I know – but having been there myself – it never really “gets easier” as they say – it only has longer and longer periods where it doesn’t cross your mind until you see or hear something that reminds you of him – then the ache of loss comes back – not for long – because the hurt will help you remember the good memories … and will bring you a smile . A little “gust” of wind in a calm day , a wind chime tinkling ever so gently for no reason – you’ll know he’s there and all is well . Best I can say – and I don’t know what to say except for this – and never forget – you still have friends here – even though some of us are far off .

Hope and family,
I am so sorry to learn of Johnny’s passing. We were childhood friends when you lived in Fairfield MANY years ago, running up and down the canal bank trying to find treasures. Johnny was always a caring person. May God’s love and peace give you comfort in the days ahead.
Love,

This hits hard.Johnny was someone you always figured would be around.Knew all those Wright brothers,Ronnie included. One time we were young and surfing Johnny wiped out on a wave and we didn’t see him come up,his board got caught in the rip.We floated way out with it looking for “Beatle’s” body.Someone said,”Look, there he is!”,running up and down the beach, waving his arms.Long paddle in!RIP.
