I have fond memories of my childhood and teen years with Joe. We used to sit on my front porch and talk for hours. Such a smart and kind person. Hard to believe so many years have passed. My sympathy to you, Theresa. Gil won’t remember me as he was a toddler last time I saw him. I’m glad Joe is pain free now and with God.

Joe was a good and loyal friend full of humor and kindness. He was a great conversationalist, particularly when discussing books. Joe never let his medical problems blunt his intellectual curiosity or limit his wide-ranging interests. He was proud of his daughter Anna, her graduation from his alma mater, UNC-CH, and her work as a writer. I’m glad to have known him for so many years.

Condolence from Ray Morgan on August 2nd, 2020 3:47 pm

I had some good times with Joe, playing basketball, going on canoe excursions, or just talking. He was a sensitive, intelligent and interesting person. I’m lucky to have shared the road with him for a while. My thoughts are with Theresa, Gil, and Anna. Safe travels to all.

Condolence from Sally Stanton BRUDERLE on August 11th, 2020 12:08 pm

Dear Theresa, I was so sorry to hear that Joe had passed on. It was really good to reconnect with him after moving back home to E. City. Joe and I grew up together – played on Griffin Street – and were in some of the same classes at school. Joe was such a kind and gentle soul. I’ll pray for you all to find consolation in your happy memories and your faith.

It is with sadness that I acknowledge the death of Joe.I met him in 1990 and I thought he was the most interesting person I had ever met.I knew he was in the nursing home & my sister & I were going to stop by & visit but we didn’t,I will always regret that decision. My sister died about 11 months later & Joe about 8 days after my sister. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & all of the many friends that he had & he had many.
