Larry Wayne McCoy of South Mills, NC went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2015 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. He was born in September 21, 1967 in Pasquotank and was the son of Avril Davenport McCoy of South Mills and the late Charles Everett McCoy.

Larry is survived by his girlfriend, Tina Toon and her two sons, William and Daniel; his brother Gary McCoy, wife Stacey and their children Hailey and Austin: his first born nephew, Andy McCoy and dear and loyal friends Curtis Jones and Carl Pierce.

Larry was a graduate of Camden County High School and East Carolina University. He was an announcer for the Albemarle Kart Club and Northeast Dragway. He previously wrote a sports column on Dixieland Speedway for the Daily Advance. We will never see a Dallas Cowboys game or a race without thinking of our Larry.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Frank Thigpen and Rev. Kip McDonald. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at all other times at the residence of Avril McCoy, 1393 N. Hwy 343, South Mills, NC. Condolences from the Jackson Family. Larry bought much excitement to the Albemarle Kart Club through his enthusiasm announcing lap by lap kart events. He personalized the sport by giving our children celebrity names ——such as Action Jackson-He was very gifted as a writer for the Daily Advance profiling motorsport drivers on their racing accomplishments. He touched many lives through his time with us. Uplifting family at this time of loss.

I still can’t believe that you’re gone but, I’m hopeful that you and Chris are somewhere catching up on old times and things you’ve missed sharing over the years. You were always fun to be around and I enjoyed being the “little sister” watching the shenanigans when we lived in South Mills. You, Kevin, and Michael Staples were always there. I’ll always look back and think fondly of the good times we had. May you RIP.

I just learned of Larry’s passing today. I worked with him 25 years ago at the shipyard, and posted a picture of us on facebook that i found yesterday. One of our friends then informed me of his passing. I am sorry for your loss. Larry was a genuinely nice person, and I’m sure that anyone that knew him misses him. I actually have his old Machinists hand book from the shipyard if you would like to have it. Just let me know and I will get it to you. Again I am sorry for your loss.
