
Larry James Simmons, 61, of Manteo died on Sunday, July 5, 2015. Born in Columbia, NC, he was the son of the late Irvin O’Grady Simmons and Wilma Rhodes Simmons. Larry was a former heavy equipment operator for Basnight Construction and worked in maintenance and gardening at the Island Guest House. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener who always had a bountiful harvest. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
Larry is survived by six siblings, Russell Gene Simmons of Ft. Pierce, FL, Rose Marie Simmons Mohler of Charlottesville, VA, David Williams Simmons of Manteo, Morris Gene Simmons of Manteo, Doris Simmons Moran of Manteo and Donna Simmons Johns of Manteo. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by four siblings, Irvin Simmons, Norma Simmons Wagner, Douglas Allen Simmons and Richard Mark Simmons.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo. The family will receive friends and relatives for a gathering after the visitation from 6:30 until 8:30pm at the home of Doris Moran, 142 Etheridge Road, Manteo, NC.

I first met Larry when I worked with your mom at the “Manteo Motel” when I was in 8th grade. I loved your Mom and she loved all of y’all….Larry was in and out of there all the time. Always a big smile and quite the charmer! He looked out for me many years after that here and there. He was a handful for sure but had a HUGE heart! I know he will be missed.
