Laura Elizabeth Midgett Stein, 71, of 124 Quitsna Road, Windsor, NC died Friday, November 15, 2013 at her residence. A native of Pasquotank County she was the daughter of the late Alfred Lewis Midgett and Hazel Mansfield Midgett and the widow of Joseph E. Stein. She was a homemaker, a member of Windsor United Methodist Church and their UMW, and volunteer director of Good Shepherd Food Pantry. She was recently awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for Bertie County by the Governor.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jo Jones of Elizabeth City, NC, and Alma Downs and husband Bruce of Hastings, Fl; a sister, Gladys Jones of South Mills, NC; a brother Donald Midgett of Palm Coast, Fl; four grandchildren, Stephen, Shawn, Shana, and Victoria; eight great grandchildren; a niece Carol Jones and a nephew Curtis Jones of South Mills, NC.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity UMC with the Rev. Kip McDonald and the Rev. Anne Travenno officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and immediately after the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence of her sister, Gladys Jones, 302 Halstead Street, South Mills, NC.
