Marian Hope Dough, 86, of Manteo, NC went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at home surrounded by family.
Hope leaves behind her devoted husband of 51 years, Walter Allen Dough; sister and best friend, Kathy Spencer; a loving granddaughter, Tabitha Collins (Darius); grandson, Mikey Sawyer; great-grandson, Dawson Rowland; great-granddaughter, Mallory Sawyer; daughter, Johnna Bonet; and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Blake, and Jenny Barrington; sisters, Nell Cox, Selma Watson, and Carolyn Cutrell; brother, Vernon Barrington; sons, Ronnie Sawyer, Mike Sawyer, Timmy Wright, Johnny Wright, Jr., and Danny Wright; granddaughter, Melissa Sawyer; and grandson, Bryan Reed.
Hope was a devoted wife and mother. She proudly managed her family’s business, Wanchese Marina, for many years caring for her employees as if they were a part of her family. She enjoyed watching the community gather in the Marina to share fishing tales and fellowship. She loved spending time in the sand, most notably at Jennette’s Pier, which holds many memories of her with her children. Her family was her world, and she would move mountains for them. She was beautiful, caring, and resilient. She was a longtime member of the Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church.
A very special thank you to Kathy Spencer, Pat Poplin, Tamara Grantham, and Caroline Stetson for the endless love, care, and devotion provided to Hope.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and protection. Psalm 91:4
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo with a graveside committal service to follow at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens.

To Kathy and family and loved ones, my deepest sympathy. I knew Hope as a fellow member of Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church. I admired her deep faith as I saw it put to the test so many times in this earthly life. She was a strong Christian lady and one so many people looked up to. She will be missed.

I met Hope through her Middle Creek family in Hyde County. I spent a lot of time with her and Selma in Nags Head on the beach. She was so sweet and fun. I will always treasure my memories of sunny days at Hope’s Nags Head home. Godspeed Hope!! I know Kathy and Allen will really miss you. Prayers for Kathy, Eden, Allen, and family.
