Marie Elliott Tillett, age 95, of Elizabeth City, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 27, 2019. She was born on February 23, 1923 in Perquimans County to the late Lillie Banks Elliott and Oliver Cecil Elliott, Sr. She was the widow of James Ward “Jake” Tillett.
She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over sixty years and loved to work with the W.M.U., Vacation Bible School, and in the fellowship hall preparing and serving meals. For about the last ten years she has been a member of Corinth Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Class. She rarely missed a Sunday until she became ill. A few years ago, she wanted to be baptized again, so she was baptized in the river by Rev. Ray Archer, pastor of Olivet Lakes Pentecostal Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Wanda Tanner, Pat McMahon (John) and Debbie Overton (Graham); three granddaughters, Pam Haskett (Chuck), Amy Feltz (Todd) and Lori Johnson (Eric); seven great grandchildren, Charlie, Hunter, Lake and Reed Haskett, Ansley and Kinnan Feltz and Taylor Johnson; one great-great grandson Charles “C.W.” Haskett; a special half-brother, Bobby Elliott and several half-brothers and half-sisters. Preceding her in death are her brother, Cecil Elliott, sister, Ann Handy and several half-brothers.
The family would like to thank her sitters, the staff and caregivers at Edenton House and the doctors and nurses at Vidant Chowan Hospital. We would especially like to thank Julia Swain and her good neighbors, Tina and Ken Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 1035 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Tillett family. I also lived in the neighborhood but Miss Marie was more than a neighbor she was like a second mother to me. I pray Wanda, Pat and Deb find comfort in knowing what a good job they did in always being there and doing whatever Miss Marie needed. As for being a reindeer in the Christmas play last year, I hope you enjoyed it Miss Marie and that is all I will say about that. Dear Family,
I wasn’t paying attention until now and want you to know you all are close in heart during these difficult days and nights.
May each of you find peace and comfort that she is with our Lord and no longer tied to the bonds of this earthly existence.
Cherish all those wonderful times together and cling to each other and your friends but most of all our Lord for strength to carry on.

So sorry for loss. Ya all are in our thoughts and prayers. Want to share an encouraging thought. This helps us a lot.
Its found at 2 Corinthians 1:3,4. This shows us that our loving Heavenly Father is described as the Father of tender mercies who comforts us in all our trials so that we can comfort others. May Our Heavenly Father comfort all of you during this difficult time
