Mary Williamson Overman passed peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Currituck House, Moyock, NC. Mary was born to the late William and Vesta Williamson on October 3, 1934 in Durham, NC and moved with her family during her childhood to Currituck County.
Mary married the love of her life, the late A. Dean Overman, on January 5, 1957 and the two shared a love that lasted sixty years. Mary and Dean made their home in Weeksville, where they raised their two sons and became an active part of the community. She was a faithful member of Newbegun United Methodist Church and the Beatty Meads Sunday School Class. Mary loved singing in the choir and would just beam when she saw her whole family sitting in the pews. Mary was also an active member of the Weeksville Lions Ladies Auxiliary and could often be found in the kitchen or serving lines at the community suppers.
One of Mary’s favorite things to do was to travel and shop, which she was able to do often upon retiring from Sears and Roebuck after thirty years. She got great joy in planning and taking trips with Dean and their lifelong friends, Bill and Shirley Trueblood.
Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as her large extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, and enjoyed spending time with all of the them. She is survived by her sons, Andy and wife Cindy, and Nicky and wife Michaelle; her beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, Steven, Beth, and Logan; her sisters, Irene Rogerson (Ray) and Louise Lamb; and brother Ralph Williamson (Debbie); brother-in-law John Henry Lowry; and sister-in-law, Margie Williamson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Betty Lowry, Barbara Jean Fowler, and Frances Arnold; and her brother, Billy Williamson.
A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 3:30 at Newbegun United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Roger Braun officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will gather immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home of Andy and Cindy Overman, 532 Meadstown Road.
