I’ll miss my old friend. We became acquainted growing up in Vance County. When his employment with US Soil Conservation Service moved him to Elizabeth City, I enjoyed the reacquaintance, especially our mutual devotion to quail hunting. Our children became friends. He made where he resided a better place. He’ll fit in well at his heavenly home.

    Greg and Family,
I was so sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. Abbott. I remember back in the day in Teener League when Greg and I played together. I believe Mr. Abbott was our coach. He knew his baseball. That was a long time ago. Every time I would see him around town he would always take time to stop and talk with me. RIP.

“Mr. Abbott” and our law enforcement community shared great contests before the 1st Judicial benches. He ALWAYS played by the rules, even when he made them up as we went. Once when his contentious client and he were at odds, Judge Fentress Horner asked, “Mr. Abbott, may we please have some order in this courtroom?” The judge having opened opened the door wide for the next volley, Mr. Abbott delivered an eloquent address (for which he was admired), and plead his client guilty. His integrity and demeanor spoke well of our bar, and his colloquialisms will endure the test of time. Oh, for the good ol’ days.

You are in my. thoughts and prayers. I have many precious memories of OC and our baseball days. The game that stands out (60 years ago) was when we Camden summer team were playing In Chowan Co. OC is the lead off hitter, first inning, here’s the pitch, and OVER the fence it goes. That made quite an impression on teenager Brian (17). Precious memories that linger. May God fill you with His wonderful blessings.

Mr. Abbott was my first boss. I was 19 and had just graduated from high school in 1969 when I went to work with him and Russell Twiford, Ruby Sharber, Russell’s secretary, John Trimpi and Everett Thompson. He taught me a lot and I learned to love being a legal secretary and worked being one until my retirement. Always liked OC. He was a good friend who I will always remember. So sorry to his family.
