Thursday, February 10, 2022, Patrick Nealley Kelly passed away unexpectedly at the age of 45. Patrick was born on October 30, 1976 in Portland, Maine to James Kelly and Barbara (Moore) Kelly.
He graduated from Methodist College in May 2000 with a degree in Professional Golf Management. He started his golf career that same month at Nags Head Golf Links as a cart boy and advanced to today’s position as Head Pro and General Manager.
He married the love of his life Karen Nunemaker on October 11, 2003 and together they have two beautiful daughters, Sara Nealley (15) and Ashley Nichole (11). You could see his pride and love whenever he talked about his girls. He followed and supported their sports and school events faithfully. He dearly loved time at the beach riding the waves and boggie boards with his girls.
Patrick had a passion for golf starting at an early age. He played at his local course Val Halla where he also enjoyed summer employment, giving him the opportunity to hone his talent. He was one of Greely High School’s greatest golfers being part of the school’s team to earn State Championships during his four years of play. Living in Maine golf was seasonal so downhill skiing was his winter passion. He was never discouraged by the cold if the opportunity to ski was presented, he was ready. Patrick loved bringing Sara and Ashley to visit Maine in the summer giving them the opportunity to know and love their Maine families.
Patrick is survived by his wife Karen, daughters Sara and Ashley; his parents Barbara Kelly and James Kelly of Maine; his mother-in-law Chris M. Nunemaker, father-in-law Buster Nunemaker, and brother-in-law Kevin Nunemaker all of Nags Head and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Twiford Funeral Home Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The funeral service will be at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Outer Banks Community Foundation Scholarship Fund in memory of Patrick Kelly.

PK, this all still doesn’t seem real and just completely unfair. It seems like we were all at Methodist just yesterday and it was some of the best times of my life. Time goes by so incredibly fast and although we could all do a better job of staying in touch, our crew will always be the best of friends. You were an incredible person and friend and I have no doubt an amazing husband and father. Karen, your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers and please reach out if we can help in anyway. PK, we will all miss you very much.
God bless,
Murrell Family

Pat was classmate and golf team member with our son at Greely High and as kind a young man as one could ever “play a round” with. It’s been many years since then, but we can still see that kind young man’s smile in Pat’s photo and it brings back warm and delightful memories. Peace……… Michael and Janice Johnson
Dear Barbara: Mary and I were both shocked and very saddened to hear this news about Patrick. It seems like yesterday that we were following Patrick and Joe golfing for Greely H.S. Patrick was a fine young man and we always enjoyed talking to him at Valhalla. He was always a gentleman and a kind person.
We will connect with you when you return home.
God Bless.
Karen, I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you, your girls and the rest of your family during this very difficult tune.
Patrick was always such a great help to me when we were hosting golf tournament fundraisers for the chamber of commerce. He was always calm and caring. I always looked forward to seeing him at the club and catching up on our families. He will be greatly missed! My condolences to Karen and his beautiful girls.
Hey Karen and girls so sorry for your loss.My deepest sympathy to you all. Coach Stu
We send our sincere sympathy to Karen and all the family. So sorry for this sad loss.
Karen and girls-
I have never had the pleasure of meeting you but I knew Pat very well as a pseudo little brother. We shared many rounds of golf at Val Halla as teammates, co-workers and friends. PK loved the game so much and he was ALWAYS at the course. I remember many mornings driving by the clubhouse on a mower and seeing PK sitting on the front steps waiting for someone to show up and let him in so he could start pulling out carts. Him working as a golf pro and GM was a predictable career path as was him being a wonderful dad and husband. I have many wonderful memories of PK that I will always cherish and only wish I had known of his illness and could’ve done something to support him.
Karen, Ashley and Sara, I am so sorry to hear of your loss and know your wondereful memories, family and friends will help you all get thru this time. God be with all of you.
Karen and family,
Patrick was such a great mentor to our son, Dylan and

Karen, I have no words. I am so very sorry for your loss. Love and Prayers to you and your family.
Patrick was a special guy who loved golf and golf loved Patrick. I always looked forward to his visits when he returned to Maine. Many found memories of a young Patrick running around Val Halla as a youth. He will be sorely missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to Karen, the girls and Kelly’s.

Karen, Sara and Ashley,
Patrick was such a sweet gentleman. He always greeted my husband and I with a smile and called his by name every time we walked into the Club. He remembered what we liked to drink and always asked how we were doing. He certainly demonstrated resilience and courage over the past years. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

We were living next to Barbara and Jim when Patrick arrived on the scene. It was a joy to watch him grow, make good friends, discover golf, and just be a really good kid. His success and happiness with his family and profession were well deserved. So many will miss him.
To the Kelly and Nunemaker families – Keeping each of you in my thoughts and prayers in your great loss. May your memories bring you peace and comfort. Sincere sympathies to each of you.

PK…the boys and I had a hell of a zoom get together in your honor. Although we all went our separate ways, the four years we had at Methodist were some of my best years period, and you were part of that. We were there when you met Karen and very obviously fell head over heels for this UNC gal. Driving to Raleigh as much as you could to see her. Im sure your little girls are sad for the short time they had with you, but I’m also sure that you left them with a blueprint for them to become successful young women. I will miss you, PK!
Karen, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of the guys. (it’s Randy) I will do whatever I can to help out.
