Ramona passed into life eternal January 6, 2021 to be with her heavenly Father. The final survivor of the last family to live in the principle keeper’s quarters of the Cape Hatteras Light Station, Ramona is predeceased by her father, Unaka Benjamin Jennette and her mother, Jennie Louana Scarborough Jennette. The youngest of seven siblings, she is also predeceased by Almy Jennette, Vivian Frontis, Myrtle Gibbs, Rany Jennette, Olive Peak, and Dorcas Anderson. She is survived by two daughters, Tia Provo Cheek (Preston) and Patricia Lynn Lee (Gilbert); four grandchildren, Elisabeth Dubberly (Brian), Timothy Cheek, Tracie Lee and Ryan Lee (Caroline); seven great grandchildren, Miles Dubberly, Jackson Dubberly, Kaitlyn Riddick, Colin Riddick, Gracie Gilmartin, Alex Lee and Audrey Lee; and five nieces and one nephew.
Ramona grew up along the outer banks of Buxton under the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse tended by her father, Unaka. In the early years of her life, she worked for Carolina Telephone as an operator eventually becoming the supervisor. A faithful member of the New Life Assembly Church where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and Bible Studies, she served the Lord in steadfast prayer for her family, friends, community and nation. One of her favorite scriptures became Isaiah 54:5-8.
A private Celebration of Life is planned in the spring at the Jennette family grave site near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
The family also expresses their deep gratitude to the nurses and Hospice workers who gave extraordinary care to Ramona the final days.
