Condolence from Mary Jolliff Moore on October 14th, 2019 5:26 pm

In the days of THE BANK OF MANTEO, Stocky would dash in and make a bee-line for my window. I’d take care of his banking stuff, he’d talk a minute or so to Mr. Pearce, and then he’d dash back out. I reckon he was on a deadline. He was such a personable person, not quiet, and very busily busy. Such a nice person, always polite, but in a hurry. I reckon he might have slowed down at some time, but he was 11 years older than I, so I wouldn’t know. My condolences to his family–I envy your having had such a nice kinsman. I pray that God will keep you in His loving arms, and that your memories will help you during this tough time.

Condolence from Fans of Stocky Midgett on October 14th, 2019 7:13 pm

We have been grateful to Stocky since the 90s for his vision realized on Ocracoke, but we did not know how much Stocky and his brothers did as young boys to make the small towns along the outer banks accessible for residents and visitors until we read the book Highway 12. We were privileged to meet Stocky and his lovely wife Libby 2 years ago and treasure their signatures in our copy of the book. We could have listened to Stocky’s stories for hours! They were such welcoming, gracious hosts. We send our deepest sympathy to Libby and Stocky’s entire family. This is the passing of a legend.

So sorry to hear about Stocky’s passing. Glad I was able to visit with him a couple of times about a month ago at Peak – and we talked about the old days and when we went to the REALTOR convention – he was always a gentleman and fun to be around. I know he will be missed. I am out of town this weekend and will miss the service but my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

RIP, Stocky, I consider you part of my Keys family, have known you many years, you were a very generous and funny man, we all loved you, it was a big thing when someone announced at the old “Landing ” Bar in Key Colony Beach: “Stocky Midgett’s” in town “!!!!! I vacationed often in OBX from the Keys and only used Midgett Realty for rentals, more than once Stocky would call and offer to take me and friends out on his boat, clamming, etc., we’ll all miss you, best wishes and condolences to the family….

Condolence from Eric and Gayle Andersen on October 18th, 2019 7:33 pm

Stocky was a real piece of work: a true gentleman in the ageless sense, and a renegade with his brother in the Keys.. I was proud to know him and consider that he started running a bus down the beach way back then that ended in Hatteras today. Special for sure. Stocky was one of a kind. All the most to the Midgett Family.
