William Edgar “Fish” Sawyer, age 74, of 102 Spruill Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, June 26 2015 at his residence. He was born July 21, 1940 in Pasquotank County to the late Bailey Hales Sawyer and Ruby Hughes Sawyer and was the widower of Addy Christine Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was a retired automotive mechanic and an active member of the Elizabeth City Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1847. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Sawyer’s survivors include two daughters, Kim S. Leis and Chris of Elizabeth City, NC and Kristie S. Forbes of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren, John K. Forbes and Michael C. Forbes; a sister, Esther Harrison and a brother, Robert J. Sawyer and wife, Mary all of Elizabeth City, NC. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, John A. Forbes; a brother Bailey Percel Sawyer and a brother-in-law, Lester Harrison.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the William E. Sawyer Memorial Fund at any North Carolina State Employees Credit Union. The family will receive friends at the residence of Kristie Forbes, 678 Body Rd., Elizabeth City. Fish was a good person. I will miss him sitting on the picnic table under the tree and his sense of humor.

I have many fond memories of my friend. We spend many hours together and always had a good time. I will miss him.
To Kim and Kristie and the rest of the “Fish” Family. I too knew Fish. I went to school with him. Stood around and joked with him several times. He had a great sense of humor. When you would see him without his glass eye; you could ask him about it and his response was ,” I have it in my pocket watching my money.” So long Fish and may you rest in Peace. May God bless each of you and our prayers will continue to be with the Fish Family.
