Winchester, VA.—-William Roger “Jim” Wilson, 70, of Melvor Lane, Winchester, VA. died Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in the Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Wilson was born on May 18, 1948 in Hertford, NC to the late Lee Roy Wilson and Mamie Oliver Wilson. He was a retired lineman for Verizon Communications and a member of the Bethel Regular Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson graduated from Perquimans County High School and the College of the Albemarle and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Lolita Baylon Wilson of the home, a sister, Lona Wilson Smith of Elizabeth City, NC, two special cousins, Val Bridgers and Milton “Mickey” Phelps. Also, surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, his extended family as well as his two loving companions, Laila and Maxwell. Roger was preceded in death by five sisters, Etta Anderson, Ivilla Walters, Onella Langley, Annie Wilson and Faye Jones and four brothers, Curtis Wilson, Lee Roy “Honey” Wilson, John Wilson and Quinton Wilson.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 1:00 o’clock in the Wilson-Ivey Cemetery, Mill Road, Hertford, NC by the Rev. F. Joe Griffith. The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home, Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, Saturday from 11:00am until 12:00pm.
